PICTURES OF OUR PAST EVENTS
On November 5th, 2016, a special dedication ceremony was held to dedicate the completion of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. After two years of hard work, we finally had a completed Vietnam Memorial wall engraved with all 58,307 names. The dedication began with a B-52 flyover, and guest speakers including Longview Mayor, Andy Mack, Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt, and United States Congressman Louis Gomhert. Local school bands and choirs provided patriotic music for the background. Several hundred people were present to take part in the celebration.
On the Fourth of July each year, we sponsor the staging of the Longview Motorcycle Paradet. Over 100 bikes show up for the parade. We hand out free hot dogs and uncounted gallons of iced water, iced tea,and lemonade. Thanks to Brookshires, Raising Caines Chicken, Super One, Sam's and Skinners for helping us with this.
Veterans Day 2015
We schedule a special ceremony on the Saturday prior to Veterans Day each year. In 2015, the event was on Saturday, November 7th. Even though it was cold and raining, several hundred people attended including the Mayor of Longview, the former Mayor of Longview, the Gregg County Judge, and United States Congressman Louie Gomhert.
Memorial Day 2015
Memorial Day of each year marks the beginning of our formal ceremonies. The flag is lowered to half mast at sunrise, and a ceremony is held to honor the raising of the flag back to the top of the mast at noon. A guided tour of the plaza and all of the monuments is conducted in the afternoon of each Memorial Day.
Independence Day 2015
Each year, the Veterans Plaza is the assembly point for the City of Longview Fourth of July Motorcycle Parade. There are displays, events, and free picnic lunches for all who attend.
Anytime Fitness 5K/10/K Run To Benefit the Plaza
On April 16, 2016, Anytime Fitness in Longview organized a 5K/10K Run event to raise awareness of veteran PTSD and suicide. All proceeds from the event were donated to the Veterans Recognition Foundation to be used for finishing the construction on the Vietnam Wall.
The 2016 Veterans Car show was a great success, both from an enjoyable event perspective, as well as a good fund-raiser.
